Does the light actually come on when you plug it into the Playstation, to say it's charging? When you press the PS button, do the four lights flash at all?

If so, try plugging in the controller to the PS3, and then pressing the PS button on the controller. If it's new, it needs to be plugged in to connect to a PS3 for the first time, as far as my experience goes.

Doesn't light up at all. Not when I connect it and not when I press the PS button.

Have you tried connecting it with a different wire? It might be the wire that's the problem, and it's not lighting up because it has no charge? If not, I have no idea what else it could be, sorry.
