What? They must have been watching a different show than us.

-Someone made a joke saying I weighted 100 lbs. I... I don't weigh that but I do have weight issues I'm trying to fix. :/

-People keep either asking me what high school I go to or how many children I have. Either I look older or younger than I should. Pick one please.

-Someone tried to convince me change my religion to... wait for it, my religion. They were a dick about it too. :( Guys you are giving us a bad name.

Weight jokes can be the worst. I'm sorry.

And that third one reminds me of the time I once had a bunch of straight non-Christians telling me that I should be nicer to Christians and respect their anti-gay beliefs. I'm a gay Christian. They refused to believe that I was a Christian criticizing my own religion. They told me that I'm not as open-minded as I like to think. I remembered that day when I had another friend tell me I'm "open-minded as fuck" when he went on an anti-Christian and generally anti-theist rant and then he apologized and I told him that I honestly wasn't bothered by a single thing he said.

These things happen.

Yeeeeaaaaaahhhhh, Christianity is a mess right now. Your story just kind of underscores that.

Heh, the pastor at my church gave a sermon once about proselytizing with respect, and led with an anecdote about being aggressively approached by someone on a street about converting to Christianity a few weeks prior (iirc, the person was from a different Protestant branch, so he didn't want to pull the pastor card to prevent a "that's the wrong branch" discussion).

Sounds like a good and much needed sermon.

(My gosh, I have never seen that happen but I kind of want to at least once in my life. You know it would be funny.)

ha. a couple of friends of mine were approached by some aggressive proselytizers when we were younger. they directed it all at the friend who, at the time, had bright pink hair and was fond of wearing giant pants. completely ignored the other, more "normal"-looking friend.

unbeknownst to them, pink-haired friend was christian and normal-looking friend was wiccan.

One of the Christians I respect said that decent evangelism has been well-characterized as "one beggar telling another where he found bread", but that given that, one must be prepared for the fact that sometimes the response will be "I'm not a beggar and I don't need any bread."

sorry about the weight joke. that's just one of those things people really should joke about.

It's okay. I understood. I mean, heck, I typoed "weighted" up there so I'm no one to judge. It happens to us all.
