This post inspired by two things I saw people say on Tumblr today.

- "Misty from Pokémon is sexualized in the show!" (uh were you watching the same show? Because the only people I remember being sexualized the whole time she was on the show were Lorelei and James. Notice that that list includes NOT MISTY. She was sexualized in The Electric Tale of Pikachu, which had a whooole lot of problems but is not related to the show aargh.)
- "If you like BDSM that is basically the same thing as wanting people to kill you, and you are disgusting and messed up in the head!" (uuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh)

We were discussing ghosts in class recently and I was one of the only people who didn't believe in them. My friend then turned around and said, 'But they exist!' and I said, 'Okay, but I don't believe they do' and she just kept repeating 'But they exist' to everything I said until I almost started yelling at her.

I don't get it, why do people think repeating the same bland statement over and over again will convince somebody of their argument? I see it so often too.

i don't know much about pokemon so i can't comment on the first thing, but on the second...what. what is even that logic. not only is it way off base, but frak, that's a whole separate kink.

anyway. today i came across someone who said that the nly reason men do /anythng/ is to attract women, that they have no interests or ambitions or drives that don't come from wanting to attract women. not only would that be incredibly sad if it were true, but what about the non-straight men out there?

The concurrent perception is that gay men have a lot more free time and spare income, because they don't have to spend all their time trying to attract women. That's why all gay men are in terrific shape, have plenty of money, and are great dancers; no pressure and lots of free time.

Most of mine have been fandom related lately.

Yeah, okay, except Toji and Kensuke took creep shots of her behind her back and sold the pictures to other boys after they met her which is a total invasion of privacy, and Shinji sexually assaulted her in EoE.
- "Bertholdt/Annie is heteronormative bullshit, and you're horrible if you ship it." Which, okay, fair enough. That's your opinion. But the person who said it is an Eren/Mikasa shipper. lmao
-"Eren/Mikasa is just as fucked up and abusive as Eren/Levi." Yeah, I don't even need to explain this one, haha.

Wow, those last two, what the heck. The Shingeki fandom can be ridiculous sometimes.
Personally I've been bothered by all the 'Levi and Hanji looked sexy and cool torturing that guy' posts I've been seeing on tumblr since chapter 55 came out. God, can we not.

Wait, what? Admittedly I haven't caught up fully yet (last chapter I read was 50), but aren't Reiner and Ymir the only confirmed gay characters? I mean, I know Reiner/Bertholdt is a popular ship, but as far as I remember there haven't been any admitted feelings for each other on either of their parts...has that changed? Because otherwise it's just as feasible that they're just friends and Bertholdt is straight.

The "BDSM is abuse/messed up" people make me so angry. Not only because they are so very wrong, but because their arguments rarely make any damn sense! But there is this whole crowd of people trying to spread that message and "save" people from the evils of any remotely BDSM-y stuff. So annoying.


Um, as for my own. Discussing how I wished everything in How To Train Your Dragon was exactly the same but genderflipped because it would be awesome and they said something about how it wouldn't be historically accurate or wouldn't make sense. IT IS AN ANIMATED SHOW ABOUT DRAGONS IT IS NOT HISTORICALLY ACCURATE. So annoyed by that argument.

The "historically accurate" thing kind of just needs to go away forever oh my god. Yes, the original was so accurate to that part of history where everyone flew around on dragons. Yes.

i really, really, REALLY hate when people that use that argument when it comes to gender in fantasy. like, why can you accept maguc and crap as seamlessly fitting into historical settings but you can't accept women doing traditionally male things? ugggh but you're not sexist, sure.

One time in a Chinese restaurant the waiter seemed to assume my dad and I were married and my mom and brother were the kids. Which a) ew, and b) is really weird because my mom and I both definitely look our ages and she is 30+ years older than me so ?????

Not really a recent development, but repeated 'discussions' with my family about the fact that I'm atheist and don't believe in the young-earth 'theory' usually devolve into me as a seething ball of unexpressed rage. I provide as many scientific facts as I can muster and am met with: But God exists.

And I'm like...okay. Fine, whatever. Your argument is based solely on something you cannot prove to me and any proof I offer for my argument is going to be dismissed because God-Magic. There is an impasse there. SO WHY KEEP STARTING THE ARGUMENT? ARRRRH.

-People keep either asking me what high school I go to or how many children I have. Either I look older or younger than I should. Pick one please.

-Someone tried to convince me change my religion to... wait for it, my religion. They were a dick about it too. :( Guys you are giving us a bad name.

A supposed "friend" is really pissing me off at the moment.

Awhile back, the subject of asexuality came up. "Oh, that doesn't really exist, those people have something seriously wrong with them"...I am asexual. She doesn't know that because it's never really been relevant to...anything, really, but it upsets me to know she thinks that. But whatever, a lot of people think that, so it's not really a big deal I don't guess.

Then we got into a discussion about fandom and she declared that if you're a "real adult" with actual responsibilities then clearly you're above fandom and have no use for it. I have an incredibly stressful and demanding job with a ton of responsibility and fandom is my way of unwinding so I don't lose my freaking mind. Which she wouldn't know anything about because she's never worked a day in her life and sits around spending her trust fund. But because she has an SO and a kid she's a "real adult" while single, childless me is "immature". It doesn't matter that I run a fucking business...I have no interest in marriage or children, so obviously I have no responsibilities and I'm not really an adult.

GRRRRRRR.

There's a girl in my college who keeps using social anxiety as an excuse for not showing up or doing her work. Except...on the occasions she does show up, all she does is socialise, sitting with her group of friends and chatting about stupid crap more loudly than anyone else in the room. And when she's not here, she's texting them, or they're talking about where they went with her at the weekend.

Meanwhile, I have actual social anxiety. I never miss a class or turn in a piece of work late. I sit alone and study through lunch, because oddly enough, my social anxiety means I am too anxious to socialise much!

That damn girl is not people-shy, she's work-shy.

Like it'd fucking hurt to hang out at my place once in awhile, I'm so tired of having to sleep over at yours cause public transport is down when you have a car and it'd be more convenient to hold movie nights at mine sometimes.
