A supposed "friend" is really pissing me off at the moment.

Awhile back, the subject of asexuality came up. "Oh, that doesn't really exist, those people have something seriously wrong with them"...I am asexual. She doesn't know that because it's never really been relevant to...anything, really, but it upsets me to know she thinks that. But whatever, a lot of people think that, so it's not really a big deal I don't guess.

Then we got into a discussion about fandom and she declared that if you're a "real adult" with actual responsibilities then clearly you're above fandom and have no use for it. I have an incredibly stressful and demanding job with a ton of responsibility and fandom is my way of unwinding so I don't lose my freaking mind. Which she wouldn't know anything about because she's never worked a day in her life and sits around spending her trust fund. But because she has an SO and a kid she's a "real adult" while single, childless me is "immature". It doesn't matter that I run a fucking business...I have no interest in marriage or children, so obviously I have no responsibilities and I'm not really an adult.

GRRRRRRR.

Your supposed friend sounds like an asshole. Drop that dead weight, she's only dragging you down!

she sounds both immature and deeply insecure. and not like a very good friend at all. i'm inclined to agree with the anon above me.

She sounds like an absolute delight. Her views are common enough, though, sadly.

Why are you still friends with her?
