We put avocado on everything here too 8D I didn't know it was a thing in SoCal!

How is the climate there, for real? The movies/series always show a sunny city (with a lot of smog, but still).

The climate is in fact mild, but no where near as sunny as the media likes to show, outside of mid-summer and some nice spring days (also, we have very strict anti-smog laws, it's nowhere near the problem it used to be). Most days in winter are overcast and chilly (well, 50f at lowest, but for us that's freezing), and June has a gloom that's positively depressing.

The past few years haven't given us very hot summers, but sometimes it does heat up badly. Usually it's only for a few days' stretch though.

Also, our part of the pacific ocean is fucking cold. You don't go into it before May at the earliest unless you want to lose a limb to frostbite.

LA!anon has it right. Also, I live in "the Valley" (the San Fernando Valley), so the temperature here will usually be 5-15ºF higher here than it would be for [personal profile] nyxelestia on the Westside. Our summers can get hot as balls! Still, give me 100º of dry heat than 80 and humid any day!
