Yeah, I do get where you come from. I would have been fine with Chihiro being canonically trans, but that's not the case. So the thing that annoys me a bit when I see it pop up on tumblr is that some people want to deliberately say that something is canon when it is fanon.
It's the same with Sakura.

I would have LOVED to have a canon trans character in a Japanese video game that was handled well. There's this one anime (Hourou Musuko, I think) that apparently manages to accurately portray trans issues (I haven't had time to watch it yet, but I've heard from people that it's great), but it's just one.

Ah, yeah, I definitely wouldn't say Chihiro is canonically trans. I mean, I kind of wish that was the case because I'm not a big fan of how Chihiro was handled in canon, but it's not.

And I can definitely say that Hourou Musuko is great! I haven't watched the anime, but I love the manga. And yeah, that's one of only... two, I think, manga that I've read that handles trans issues well. (And I can't remember the title of the other one, much to my chagrin.)
