Because the Dreamworks face puts asses in seats. No, seriously, that's it. Movie posters where the characters are looking at the camera like "Yeah, we're going to get into trouble and have fun doing it" are simply more appealing to kids than the more classic, artsy style Disney used to do.

Yep, thank you. Folks have a tendency to look for complex explanations, when the real explanations are simple, boring, and unflattering. Asses, seats, no other moving parts.
