I don't know why this is a secret, but it's an interesting topic. I was really confused on why Kristoff didn't have a real family, when he clearly had, err. People. In the very opening scene. They didn't pay attention to him, no, but in those days it was normal for kids to help out with work so that didn't strike me as odd. Is there a canon implication that he was left behind and forgotten? I never got the sense that he, as a kid, felt that he was being left by himself.

It does seem weird that the trolls "adopted" him. It's an interesting theory, maybe the trolls did alter his memories to make him think he didn't have a real family.

But he still works as an ice salesman, right? So surely he still knows those Saami-inspired people.

It was odd because no one was paying attention to the point they would have trampled him had he not moved.

He's sitting alone by the fire when the royal family rushes to the trolls, so he was definitely not with anyone.

When the royal family rushes to the trolls he was walking with Sven, not sitting by a fire. He stopped when he noticed they were leaving behind a trail of ice and then proceeded to follow them.
