I'll agree with you on the 'precious' part...not seeing the 'straight' part? But I guess it's because it's fairly obvious she's getting all her concepts of romance and possibly relationships in general from the medieval equivalent of popular media, which I would expect to be fairly straight.

I don't think they were supposed to be from the medieval era, were they?

I'd say Renaissance, myself. Early Renaissance. Pre-guns, but possibly canons on ships.

Nah, that's a mid-1800s asthetic for sure, since they are contemporaries of Rapunzel, after all.

I would have thought late Renaissance/very early modern/Age of Discovery. The ships looked pretty sophisticated.

Pfft, medieval Europe had all its canons in churches!

In a roundabout way, yes. Most people associate medieval with both a time and a place (Middle and pre-Middle Ages) and a location (look at most 'medieval' movies and they have a very Western European flavor to them).

Frozen was set in the medieval period (from what I've gathered, it's a bit late in the Middle ages but still well within that era), just a different place than is normally thought of as medieval, as it takes place in Northern European instead of Western or Central.

She's fairly obviously straight though? There was zero indication that she wasn't.

Well, does she really interact with any girls other than her sister?

I don't care if anyone thinks she's straight but this is always kind of a strange argument to me. There was zero indication that I wasn't straight at her age too.

This!!!!

And I don't see why we should assume anyone's sexuality. I have no problem with Anna being straight at all. It's just that her crushing on guys doesn't eliminate the possibility of her also being interested in girls. Or that she doesn't have a large understanding of her own sexuality, presumably never having been in a relationship, or her sexuality is evolving, etc.

I'm not saying that she isn't straight, or that it's bad to assume she is. It's just that, unless it's stated in canon that she is, her behavior, and most other character's behavior, don't have to be interpreted as "straight".

(that being said, I'm not really interested in Anna's sexuality, I'd rather read Elsa as a lesbian for, well, obvious reasons)

Yeah my headcanon is that Anna's straight and Elsa isn't. Can't decide if I like her better as a lesbian or bisexual though. I just love all that fanart on tumblr of her meeting a pretty girl with fire powers.

This is a great point.

In addition, sexuality can be much more fluid than people think. Even if she identifies as straight during film and even legally are attracted to men, it may not be in the case of later in life.

That's a really weird reason to say someone is "obviously" straight? I think you mean "not obviously queer". Which doesn't mean she's not queer, or that she's not straight. It means we don't know because there aren't any indications.

Re: ...

This is a good comment.

Re: ...

(Anonymous) 2014-03-09 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I saw too. I don't think she's necessarily straight because she's just kind of mirroring what she sees in her society, kind of like a kid.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-03-09 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It's like when people on tumblr call characters their gay babies or whatever. It was a weird subconscious thing.
