If you worry about how something might or might not be potentially seen by the audience, your writing will suffer. Just write it like you want it.

There are too many people who will always dislike something about whatever you say or write.
If you start censoring yourself even though your intention isn't to offend, then the result will be insipid.

This. There was a small period in which I got so wrapped up in how every single possible person might interpret my fic and it led to me agonizing over whether or not I'd get hate for having a character use the word 'stupid'.

Don't go down that path, OP.
