queerbaiting is definitely a thing in anime

They're just good friends! Official art, not fanart:

Molesting your friend when he's not wearing any pants is more than a sign of friendship for most people.

(In case the picture doesn't work, it's Ban and Ginji from GetBackers.)

Yeah, this doesn't exactly look like a couple of friends chillin' together.

I'll take your word for this, because I'm no expert when it comes to anime. I can only watch those that are well drawn, and so there are only a few I've actually seen (Wolf's Rain, Dantalian no Shoka, and some other stuff).

I'm mostly talking about Western books+TV+movies.

GetBackers was definitely not well drawn. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but would never recommend it. :) There are a lot of people who talk about queerbaiting in Sherlock, but I stay away from those discussions for various reasons.

Hahahaaaaaa~ Man I remember GetBackers. I never finished it. I want to say I'm surprised the two never banged but I'm not.

I can't remember the ending - the manga might have had one of those shounen endings with Ban and Ginji heading off together in search of new adventure.

I tried to look up the ending. It apparently either ended at infinity fortress, which I know it didn't, or no one knows because it went out of print.

The manga's ending involved another world, God!Ginji and other stuff.

It was... weird.

But you're right: Ban and Ginji went, in fact, to a new adventure (searching for Ban's mother).

YES! I was remembering that exact picture last night and wishing I still had it. LOL, those official pictures were the best.

Aww, I fucking loved Get Backers. And this two totally did it. My inner 15 y/o will not be convinced otherwise!

And there's also that thing with the... one that uses strings as his weapon? Him and his bodyguard has a thing, right? Was it canon? Or just winkwinknudgenudge subtext?

Juubei/Kazuki. Yeah. I think the artist shipped them or something (something about he'd write a doujinshi about them or something- I think Kazuki ended up dating a lady in the manga -bogus- but whatever).

Re: queerbaiting is definitely a thing in anime

(Anonymous) 2014-03-10 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
No, he didn't date anyone in the end and he and Juubei were still very close (there's Toshiki too, but his relationship with him is slightly different).

What was implied in the end [Spoilers]

...

was that Kazuki was a woman in the real world and that (s)he a Juubei were close in that world too.
Take that as you want.

I'm confused because Kazuki was born outside the Limitless Fortress and he left the Limitless Fortress, so isn't the Kazuki we saw in the series real (unlike MakubeX)? What's the distinction between the real world and whatnot?

[Mor Spoilers of the Ending]
The thing is, the world we know (not only the Limitless Fortress) was confirmed to be a virtual copy based on the real world.
Most characters are copies of real people and their life used to be the same, but it diverged from the real world's history at some point (and it also become a real world in it's own way).

It's pretty much stated that those Kazuki and Juubei from the real world are pretty much "the same", even though their life was not really the same (and in Kazuki's case, their sex was different in each world).

Thanks for answering. That's pretty weird. Not the weirdest thing I've ever seen or read but it's definitely unusual. Maybe I'll go back for it some time. I always loved Ban and Ginji. I just wasn't into the rampant fanservice about the ladies. But that sounds interesting.
