I like Spuffy and whatever the Angel/Buffy ship name is (Bung? Anuff? Anguff? Buffel? There is no good name).

Neither were good for Buffy in the long run. She's better as a free bitch.

SMG opinion is valid. Her preference to Angel/Buffy, might have to do with the fact that she dated David. As well, she has gone on record (with James) about hating the rape scene with Spike (the difficulties and unease of shooting that scene).

SMG's opinion is also the canonical intent. Buffy's first love was Angel and she never got over him. Her relationship with Spike had more to do first with self-loathing and then later with not wanting to be alone. Neither were good for her in the long run, as you said, and that was the point of both relationships.

The delusion and vitriol of so many Spuffy shippers even after all these years is alarming. I shipped Buffy with Spike but as the messed up relationship it was in canon, not the true love fantasy so many Spike stans did/do. I think they've actually gotten worse in the last 10 years and that's saying something.
