Re: Characters you like in fanon more than canon?

Percy Weasley. I used to love reading fic where it turned out he was a super-secret spy for the order of the phoenix and only acted like a dickhead to keep up appearances (it was a pretty popular headcanon among Percy fans back in the day). I know it's a stupid cop out and that in some ways he's arguably more interesting in canon because he shows how one can take gryffindor traits to the negative extreme but I love it anyway

Also from Harry Potter: Draco. He was such a little shit with basically no redeeming qualities in canon but I read soooo much Draco/Harry fic when I first got in the fandom.

sa

Just remembered another one from Harry Potter: James. I mostly like him better in fanon because most of what we saw of him in the books was him being a douche since the actual scenes involving him were via Snape. I've read some good marauder-era fic involving him

DA

I loved all of the Marauders, but I think the problem was that fandom tended to celebrate MWPP, whereas I feel like JKR was really trying to go the tragic hero (with 87 flaws to boot) angle with them. I still like fandom's version a bit better in the fic writing sense, though in a way it was more interesting to read when we realized how colossally screwed up they actually were.

10000% yes to Draco.
takaraikarin: Fanart of Tim Drake in Kon-El's costume (DCU - Tim - Kon's)

I love so many versions of fanon!Draco, people assigned lots of interesting traits for him and the good authors made them believable.

Even after all these years, when it comes to fanwork, HP is still my favorite.

Sirius Black.

Because in Canon there was potential, (in both the really cool frood type of way and the tortured tragic hero way) but everything he did was so motherfucking STUPID. He could've carried the Idiot Ball for England.

Communicate using words/letters/pensieve memories/smoke signals? Nah. Better to stalk my godson and freak him the fuck out/ break into dormitories with a knife / break a random kid's leg to drag him into a tree / send mysterious packages instead of using fucking labels like a normal person (granted, Harry was 50% of the stupid, there)/ dive into a fight which was started using you as bait because that'll be oh so helpful...

Yeah, the only way I can handle Sirius is fannon Sirius who either didn't do half that shit, or was clearly explained to be Azkaban-Mad needing all kinds of therapy for doing that shit. Or, you know, earlier era fic where he was young and boning everything.
