Re: What non-canon slash pairings do you think are almost-canon?

It wasn't just the whole pink thing either. There was the whole Quatre and him being so sensitive that he must be gay thing. How he totally looked gay. Everybody also always points to the scene where they they play music together as meaning they're totally gay and the implications from that reasoning just bug me.

I suppose I can see where they're coming from, but to me, I just read them as having a very close friendship. I guess my slash goggles are broken or something. As for the writers pandering, I'm not sure. They could have.

Well, I'd agree about the sensitive point, and the Quatre "looks gay" point. But I don't think the music scene is an unfair evidence at all. Not "music is gay" but it's a blatant relationship building scene, and Quatre harmonizing with a guy that's been almost totally silent. I think the scene is very important, whether or not you believe their is sexual tension. Iirc, Quatre and Trowa even live together in Frozen Teardrop. They aren't "canon" in the sense that they haven't kissed on screen or anything but I think they are one of the better candidates for this topic.

The writers were definitely aware of their female fanbase. Gundam Wing had a ton of official art that was very... close between pretty much all the pilots. I used to have a folder with all the art, unfortunately not now. But whether or not the writers intend for Quatre and Trowa to actually be gay, there's no way they were unaware of their fanbase.

I will admit that it is there to build their relationship but I didn't get anything like sexual tension or the like from it. Considering that they had only recently met, it comes off to me as two allies bonding and becoming friends. Like I said, I guess my shipper goggles aren't on toght enough. That and most of the reasons I've heard just seem stereotypical or read like a deep friendship to me. Anyway, I apologize if I'm coming off as rude or anything. I've got no problem with the ship, it just never really clicked for me.

Oh god, I will concede that Frozen Teardrop is definitely pandering to the fujoshi fanbase. I like to pretend it doesn't exist tbh. As nd yeah, they were definitely aware of their fambase, but during theoriginsl show's run it was mostly limited to magazine spreads.
