I usually read some until I feel tired and make sure anything that would distract me from getting tired is out of reach.

If that doesn't work, I do breathing exercises and tighten my muscles in intervals until that tires me out. Pretty sure there's a legitimate name for this, but I can't remember it for the life of me.

I think this is a progressive muscle relaxation? This may sound right.

It's funny, if I read, when I begin to feel tired, my mind will keep spinning around what was just read. I lay there, thinking about the book and can not sleep as a result. I wish that method worked for me, as I think I would get more reading done and much more sleep as well. But I'm glad it works for you!

That sounds about right!

And I usually read articles and non-fiction stuff for the reason you mentioned. (National Geographic's my go to, actually.) Story narratives will keep me up until finish them or wear out.
