So how was your day?
My mom and I were walking in our neighborhood to the house my parents are going to be moving into in a few months, a couple blocks away from where we currently live. We were walking our younger dog, a greyhound, who gets daily walks in the afternoon, and we let her run around in the backyard for a bit. I went to go put her leash back on her, and...she was on the wrong side of the fence.
Greyhounds are sight hounds and can run very, very fast, and they don't really have a homing instinct like many dogs do. You are not ever supposed to let them off their leash unless it's in a fenced enclosure (a reason why a big fenced-in yard is a must for my parents). My mom had previously inspected the fence to be sure it was sound before letting her loose in the backyard, but there was a large pile of logs where part of the fence was supposed to be. We don't know how it got there, as it wasn't there before (we'll be looking into that).
I yelled for my mom and climbed over the logs after her, yelling her name, but she was completely out of sight as soon as she went around the nearest house. Mom ran back home, got the car, and we started looking for her everywhere, calling people who could help. My dad and sister drove to the new house and, amazingly, when they got there, some 15 minutes after she got loose, the dog had re-appeared in the backyard. We think she was just wandering (rather than running after an animal, which is what can cause greyhounds to move very far very fast and get lost or killed) and wandered back to see where we are. She must have been puzzled when we weren't there...
We are so lucky. I was very scared. We all were. I'm glad she's safe and sound.
In other news, when we got back after all that, I found that the book I ordered came in the mail! I'm FINALLY reading A Memory of Light, yes, more than a year after it was published OTL. I'm...not entirely sure my body is ready for this. o.O
Re: So how was your day?
Today was pretty dramatic for me. I have a friend who has been trying to ignore a crush they have on me for months. They're really depressed about not being in a relationship and feel guilty about their jealousy of my relationship and their feelings for me. Today they told me that they're going to avoid me for a while while they try to get past these feelings. They have depression and anxiety that has gone untreated and I tried to get them to promise that they would try to talk to a professional if they're going to cut out the person in their life that they are able to talk to most (that's what they've said), but I'm afraid that's not going to happen and I'm worried.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-11 12:01 am (UTC)(link)Idk if that's what will happen with them, but there is a chance that they really do just need space - at least, in terms of feelings for you.
*I'm not saying you do that but...well. Sometimes just seeing the person reminds you, and that can really suck.

That sounds awkward and rough, especially if you really care about your friend, which it sounds like you do. I hope they get help.

Responsible greyhound owners are super, super careful about never letting them off leash unless there's a fence. It is very easy for them to get lost - they're fast, if they see an animal they can bolt, and they don't have a homing instinct (that's what I've been told anyway). We think she wandered back to the yard because she hadn't gone far and she was looking for us, not the yard itself (especially because she doesn't even live there yet, so it's not like it's her "territory").
What is an e-collar? Like a microchip?

I'm finally getting some paid work! I'm gonna be working at a nice garden centre 7 miles from I live. Really nice, varied horticultural work.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-11 12:02 am (UTC)(link)I've had...an okay day. Not great, but not bad either.
Tomorrow is going to suck since I'm starting some new thing my mom wants to do die-wise and it's...weird. Like, not unhealthy but it involves testing foods and one at a time and seeing what you "react" to so...we'll see how that goes.

I finally got the last of my stitches out today, thank goodness! My skin is very sad from all the band-aids.

I ended up having to work as couple extra hours today despite trying so damn hard to keep out of things because I couldn't afford to.
Had to sprint with a heavy ass travel rucksack halfway across London to get my train. Just made it, and it got delayed by two hours. So now I'm going to be on the third day in a row on four hours sleep. Only upside I suppose is that with a bit of luck I'm going to sleep right through my fourteen hour flight 'tomorrow' (leave the house in like five hours).

(Anonymous) 2014-03-11 12:23 am (UTC)(link)My day could have been better. I found out this afternoon that the repairs on my car were going to cost around $1200 (among other things, the spark plugs are shot and the valve covers are messed up) so that wasn't great. However, I'm very fortunate because my mother and step-father offered to pay for the repairs and allow me to pay them back in installments which is quite generous of them.

Re: So how was your day?
I had a pretty big day. So back last June I had to quit my Walmart job because I had to move. Well now I might have a job at the Walmart in town. The interview went pretty well , but the only problem is that the job is temporary.
If I work really well I might be kept on but that's still a might. This makes me kinda nervous and I really wish I had just gotten a position for keeps. I need the job for healthcare insurance and to have something to do with myself.
Tomorrow I'm staying home to stay by the phone all day because I will be a nervous wreck if I go out with my Mom and sis and potentially miss the call. I hope I get a good job outta this.

Re: So how was your day?
My day was largely uneventful, particularly since there wasn't anything for me to do for work so I spent most of it indulging my poor health by lying in bed. My license plate from the car I wrecked came in the mail though (long story as to why that had to happen), which is nice, except that the salvage yard apparently couldn't handle the anti-theft bolts, and completely broke the custom plate frame to get it off, as well as bending and tearing the metal along the top of the plate to the point where I can barely screw it onto the new car due to the holes not lining up. Really annoying. At least it only costs $15 extra in my state if I want to switch to a new vanity plate, since the old one was coming up for renewal in a month anyway. $15 plus regular registration fees for renewing a vanity plate, $30 plus standard registration fees for getting a new one.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-11 01:25 am (UTC)(link)I had a truly excellent day. I had a few really amazing and vaguely unexpected pieces of good news at work, and then I stopped by a new local yarn shop and picked up some things to make a scarf for myself afterwards. And now I'm drinking wine and eating cookies. So... pretty solid day, all in all :)

Re: So how was your day?
I had a reunion with some physicists about some new crazy software simulations for an article I should contribute to with my work. It's a LOT of work that I need to do on top of all the crap I have going on now.
Need to paint another wall of my bedroom (the darker one, my bedroom is going to look awesome after the redecorating) and then I'm done, furniture should be ready and here by the end of the week. I'm SO tired though, god. Thankfully my brother has been coming over regularly to help.
I'm behind on a video I need to edit for a local rock band (my side side job) and I hate myself for taking this job when I clearly have too much stuff that needs to be done. I needed the money. Also, tomorrow it's lunch-reunion day with the guys I work with for my side job. Potential tragedy or good news ahead, still unsure.
All in all, I think I'm overworked and it's starting to have effects on my health. I also put on some weight and I have zero time for gym or the like. I feel like crap.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-11 03:24 am (UTC)(link)I was a good day. It happened many, I came to the post I was waiting for me who has no good news. So overall, I am satisfied with the way you do things. However, I'm happy for you too!
