Things you should like, but don't

(Anonymous) 2014-03-11 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Aka things that have everything or most things you like, but you still can't enjoy them.

Alternatively things that other people have recommended to you a bunch, but you don't like it.

Hannibal
I thought I would love it, especially considering how much of my soul nbc already owns, but I just can't get into it. On paper, it seems like it has everything I love, but I watched the first two episodes and I just can't. I don't know why.

A strong, strong second. I've heard from people whose taste I generally trust that it's amazing, and on paper it's right up my alley, but I watched the first few episodes and... meh. To me, it was the most boring two hours of television about serial killers ever filmed. I don't know why, I just could not get into it...

It's disappointing because I see so many cool gifs of the show and even just watching the first couple episodes I was absolutely blown away by the cinematography, there were so many gorgeous shots and visuals. But nothing about the plot really drew me in. And usually no amount of fictional violence/gore ever bothers me, but I'm starting to realize the cannibalism might be getting under my skin more than I thought and that's why I can't watch it.

Black Sails. Pirates and period clothing and action-adventure but somehow I just don't care about it.

D'aww. :(

I've only seen two episodes, need to catch up, but I wasn't awfully fond of it either. I loved the relationship between Eleanor and Max and it was nice to see Tom Hopper again (he was good!), but on a whole it just didn't catch my attention the way I was hoping. Maybe it gets better, idk...

(I like Assassin's Creeds interpretations of the characters more.)

Cowboy Bebop. I was successfully persuaded that I should watch it, by friends who pointed out that every single ingredient in it is something I like. So I checked out the first few episodes and... eh. Not a single fuck was given that day.

Grimm and/or Arrow. Both have a lot of qualities that I should like, but I just find both shows either boring or annoying.

Dr. Who.

I think it's just because I've had so many people do the whole "OMG, IT'S SO AWESOME, YOU MUST WATCH IT!" thing at me that it just...completely ruined any interest I might have had in it.

Yup. It seems like it could be fun but I find the madcapness of it all somewhat annoying.

I should like Loki but he just doesn't work for me and I can't get into his devoted fandom.

I AM NOT ALONE!

Thank heavens! I am not the only one who doesn't love him! I do find him to be a good villain, but other than that...

Why fantasy? You do not want to do it if necessary! It's all up to you! You can anyone you want to be on what you want to do. I do it! You can also do it! If you try, it's easy. I believe, I hope you believe in yourself.

Doctor Who. My brother had been bugging me about it for ages so I finally watched the first season and really liked it, but then couldn't warm up to Ten after really liking Nine (which according to my brother is apparently a super rare opinion, although I don't know if I believe him) and gave up.

I know there are some other shows that I gave up after one or two episodes, but I can't remember any of them off the top of my head, and maybe I didn't give them a fair chance so who knows if they count anyway.

Have you tried just skipping to the Eleventh Doctor's era? S5 (Eleven's first season), is essentially a reboot, as many of the Nine/Ten era elements are left behind in favor of a new Doctor and new companions.

Torchwood. It's alright but i couldnt get into it as easily as I did Doctor Who...

However, speaking of Doctor Who....everyone I know is into Rose/Ten and i'm just...meh. I can't get into Doctor romances as to me, it makes the whole programme, kind of soap opera-esque, probably explains why Donna Noble is my favourite.

LOST. I tried the first 5-6 episodes and really wasn't feelin' it. I don't like most of the characters we start with (Jack and Kate are AWFUL), and while I know there will be more characters later, I have no desire to stick around and watch more. It'll be there if I ever want to go back, but there are so many other options out there it's unlikely I ever will.

I loved the show from start to finish, but I can totally get behind the feeling of "I am not watching Jack and Kate for a second longer than I have to." The rest of the cast either started out endearing to me or eventually got at least a little bit likeable. Jack and Kate just got progressively worse.

True Detective. Usually that sort of thing is my favourite thing (well-written atmospheric murder mystery) but the first episode bored me :(

The Walking Dead. I love zombie things but it does nothing for me.

I should probably like GOT and I just don't. I tried both books and tv and it just didn't work for me.
