1. Is the Mary Sue another elf, a human, a hobbit, a dwarf...?

2. I am highly intrigued by the idea of LoTR femslash that's not just genderbent-canon characters.

3. I've done that, I know how you feel... I think the only "problem" might come from if you posted it, then tried to claim that it was something then id-fic, because id-fic is fun sometimes; it's when people act like their character "totally isn't a Mary Sue" and that their fic is "amazing" and anyone who dislikes it is "just jealous" that it becomes a problem. But just writing it, and acknowledging what it is? I don't see how that's a bad thing. :3

If we're talking Tolkien in general and not just LotR, I feel like there's a bit of a Silmarillion femslash vogue going on at the mooment. It's still femslash in a middle-sized fandom, so it's not huuuge, but, y'know.

Mostly LotR/The Hobbit, I'm afraid; I tried reading the books, but Tolkien's style and I just don't get a long very well. :(

Maybe if I can find a book on tape of the Silmarillion, I'll give that a shot, but for now it's movies (and what I'm able to pick up from wikis/meta posts) I'm afraid. ^^;

Ah, I can understand that. I love the Silm but it's not for everyone. Personally I think an audiobook would make it even worse - all the names! Unless you had an index/wiki on hand, I guess... but yeah, not necessarily everyone's ideal reading experience, heh.

Ooh, maybe it was done like a radio play, with different people voice acting different characters?

Though, that might not work if it's a narration heavy story...

I've never been able to read it (though I've tried a couple of times) because it reads like a Bible. At least the first bit of it is very narration heavy.

It's part history part creation myth. I tend to treat it like a historical anthology.

Ooh, that could be a problem- I've tried to read the Bible before, and even when I know how the story goes, the style it's in gives me issues. |D I mean, when I skip around to the stories I like, it's not a problem, but when I try to read it straight through...

Blech, narration. I mean, I'm not really fond of the "only dialogue, no explainy bits" style of writing that I've seen elsewhere, but... Balance!

Ah well, maybe some day. :D

The Biblical feel is what makes it easier for me to read than LotR.
