Don't beat yourself up! Just don't.

Sometimes you absolutely need to give in and write "idfic" ... if for no other reason than to get it out of your system.

(If idfic = drawerfic, then yes, everyone I've known since I got into fandom has written such stuff. Stuff they'd never post, or even admit to writing. *coughcough*)

1. Is the Mary Sue another elf, a human, a hobbit, a dwarf...?

2. I am highly intrigued by the idea of LoTR femslash that's not just genderbent-canon characters.

3. I've done that, I know how you feel... I think the only "problem" might come from if you posted it, then tried to claim that it was something then id-fic, because id-fic is fun sometimes; it's when people act like their character "totally isn't a Mary Sue" and that their fic is "amazing" and anyone who dislikes it is "just jealous" that it becomes a problem. But just writing it, and acknowledging what it is? I don't see how that's a bad thing. :3

I don't see any reason to be ashamed. You're allowed to write things just because they're fun.

We all have times like that. Your brain just needs a rest! It's good that you're writing through it. It might not seem like it right now, but that keeps you sharp!

Fun things are fun and it's okay to indulge.

I've never written Mary Sue stuff (I've written terrible, terrible stories- just never love-interest-OCs or Mary Sues) but I can totally understand why it would be a lot of fun.

I still write a bunch of silly, indulgent self-insert fic. In fact, I'm writing pieces of one, right now.
I just don't post it anywhere that's public.
Nothing wrong with that.

Well, a Mary Sue OC is best paired with another Mary Sue OC, so it's all good.

I'm not a fan of Tauriel, but I think a lot of us have been in that place. I certainly have! As long as you're writing and having fun, who cares?

I like you, OP. Also going through some stress writer's block and I want something to keep me writing, anything at all....

Rock on, OP. For me, any writing is writing. Other work will come in time.

One person's self-indulgent idfic is another person's dream come true, THANK GOD SOMEONE FINALLY WROTE IT NOW I CAN DIE HAPPY fic.

Plus it's just do gosh-darn satisfying to write.

Don't be ashamed of writing what you feel like. Especially in fandom where everyone is just writing their fantasies and random daydreams, it's a weird place to get elitist over.

All I can ever do is plot. I have an entire headcanon for Sirius' younger sister being Ginny's actual mother that spans an entire three notebooks on just a timeline. (If you ever see me buying a green notebook, that's probably what I'm using it for.) And I'm still not actually writing anything of substance. So go you, for writing! And if you want to publish it, go right the frick ahead because there's something called a back button if people don't like it.

*hugs you OP* I understand. I have been going on a month of stress induced writer's block. And Yesterday I managed to write/start a self-indulgent Narnia story and all I can think with my feverish brain is "Oh, at least I'm writing!"

So, YAY, at least you're writing. Sometimes writing the fan stuff is a lot less stressful than the original stuff and even can reduce overall stress. *pokes story* Now if Edmund would stop being his usual self, and I'm supposed to find a plot somewhere in here.

Hey, whatever you need to do to get it out of your system. Everyone needs to just write self-indulgent crap sometimes. You're still writing which is brilliant, too many of us just stop when we can't produce anything good. Just keep writing and you'll get back to the "good stuff" eventually.

Just going to chime in with everyone that you just gotta do what you gotta do to get that groove back. You don't have to post the stories (or at least, post them under your usual names). I'm a little touched to see FS so united in support of someone... and the few bitter cakes standing out awkwardly. Ha.

Also never noticed before how that cap of Tauriel demonstrates a perfectly executed side-eye. Awesome.

Hey, if it helps you out of this funk, keep doing it. Whatever works. Don't be ashamed of it. Think of it as practice or working out.

At least you're writing something. It doesn't matter how bad it is, as long as you can keep those words coming it'll be that much easier to get back in the swing of things when the writer's block passes.
