I think Gou is hilarious and probably the best female character possible for an anime like Free!. She the fujoshi avatar. Her job is to have sexy yaoi fantasies about the boys and (hopefully) let the audience watch them. I adore her but don't care about pairing her, but as long as she doesn't end up with one of the main five guys, it's all good.

I don't really agree that she's the "fujoshi avatar" (because I don't think she seems that interested beyond ogling) but I think she's really terribly cute. I like her a lot.

Yeah, I was exaggerating a little - but considering the show's target audience (women who are probably interested in slash), she still stands as the "avatar". I think it's awesome. If she were to be Haru's love interest or something, she'd probably be hated, but as someone that ogles the guys (the way the target audience is expected to), she's relatable and hard not to like.
