Well, it wasn't on air between 1989 and 2005... plus the series/seasons aren't that long (compared to US shows).

Yeah, I wasn't quite aware of that. That makes a bit of difference indeed. I thought it had been on non-stop since the sixties!

SFAIK, the only UK series that's done that is 'Coronation Street' (a soap). And it's still going.

ETA: UK. The poster below me mentioned GH (General Hospital?) that has also been running forever.
