I would watch a show about Crowley and Castiel living together Odd Couple style while trying to redeem each other. I will watch any plotlines not involving Sam and Dean at this point.

That sounds really awesome. I don't like either Castiel or Crowley and have stopped watching Supernatural, but I'd pick it right the hell back up if that were the premise.

+1

(Anonymous) 2014-03-13 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Why would the King of Hell be interested in redeeming himself? :O

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Because, as of the end of season eight, deep down he only wants to be loved. (blaaargh)

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think I want him redeemed, but I do want it to be a deliberate choice.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-13 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I must admit I am kind of interested in Crowley's old human self.

I don't need him to be redeemed though. I like the snarky king of hell.

I figure that his old human self would have to be a magnificent bastard, and the demon Crowley is just human Crowley turned up to eleven.

Now I'm thinking about it, I'd like to see him "redeemed" and revert back to his human origins, only to be pretty much the same exact snarky king of hell.

Yes please

Crowley is the most interesting character but the writers would totally tuck up a redemption plot line. I like character types like his hooking up with good guys for mutual gain and coming off better than the good guys or just as good as the good guys in a different way. I like his "friendship" with Dean and I want more of that if only for the fact that Crowley being his friend makes Dean hate himself more.

he doesn't deserve a shot at redemption when so many other (not white cis dude) characters didn't get one.

i mean he doesn't deserve one to begin with, because ya know, he's awful, but still. there were a whole hell of a lot of characters that had more 'humanity' and had done far less damage than crowley did and they ~deserved to die~

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I can't remember there being any trans* characters in Supernatural, so they can hardly be being cheated of their redemption so the white cis guy can get a chance.

so? i was describing the character by his privilege, because that's what he is?

i mean there is the whole 'demons are just smoke and angry feelings without genders' but they (and angels) are not written that way and that's what crowley was as a human, so.

NAYRT

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Why is his privilege even relevant to the discussion?

now that i think of it, idk if privilege was necessarily the right word for what i meant, i'm not at my most articulate so i'm having a hard time putting my thoughts into words. :/

Supernatural isn't a fount of representation in the first place, as much as you and I wish it were, so this comment is irrelevant. The main characters are a bunch of while dudes. I can't think of a main character besides poor dead Kevin who isn't a white dude.

I mean, Meg kinda got some redemption while Bela didn't if you wanna talk about female characters. Kevin didn't need to be redeemed. You wanted that one douchy black guy who got turned in vampire to be redeemed? Who else is there that "deserved to die" but could have been redeemed? Ruby? Raphael?

How the fuck does that make my comment irrelevant? Because the show is shit at minority representation? Gee that might be the whole point of my comment.

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2014-03-14 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Arguing that Crowley, an existing character, shouldn't be redeemed because the existing characters don't represent minorities is ridiculous. I agree there should be more minority and better representation in Supernatural, but the fact that there isn't doesn't mean they can't or shouldn't explore a specific plotline with an existing character.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
...which is exactly why it's irrelevant. Race, gender, etc. has zero bearing on whether someone's redeemable or not.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
...except when you're a scriptwriter.

Though this show doesn't even consider most people who aren't white, etc worth even including, so yeah.

that's not that i meant, i'm trying to say that how crowley the king of hell, of all characters, gets even the option of a redemption, over other characters who have done far less is ridiculous. i think a reason for that is that he's a fan fave, and surprise, the fandom loves their white dudes.

i'm not trying to say that race or gender have anything to do with whether a character is redeemable or not, just that it probably factored into why it's something that happened to crowley, and not say, meg. because the fandom hated her. because she's a she.

i am trying to be clear, it's just late so if it's not i apologize.

I'd really like for somebody to acknowledge that being "human" (as in, able to feel human emotions, the way a 'cured' demon supposedly can) does not automatically mean being nice or good. Humans can be total shitheads! I'd love to see Crowley reset to whatever he originally was like, with all the potential for good AND bad he had as Fergus McCleod.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw the image before I read the text, and I thought immediately "Badger? No, wrong clothes... Sterling!" Then I read the text, and realized I was confused.

He plays a lot of devious bastards, doesn't he?
