Can only speak about Home Improvement and Malcokm in The Middle, but they were definitely not "empty husks" or "bitchy". They were well rounded full characters on their own. I can see if maybe you only watched one or two episodes and jumped to conclusions, but if you were actually watching the show regularly you would see that.

However a big part of their role is centered around being a wife and mother, and maybe that is in fact the character trait that seems to bug you so much and make a show unwatchable. I know I've seen a lot of people complain about that.

I've only watched the first three shows, but those three are only alike in that they are women, mothers and funny. Vastly different personalities, different lifestyles and were in no way empty or stereotypical.

So disappointed in this secret... I really just don't get it. These are some of my favorite t.v. moms.
