Jill was bitchy? In what way exactly?

And no, they're not empty husks. And I swear Lois acts the way she does because she and Hal raised five hellions.

That was what I was wondering. I haven't seen any of the other shows so I can't comment on those characters, but based on the one example I have seen, I'm not exactly inclined to take the OP's description of the others at face value.

+1

I can't remember anything stereotypical or bitchy about Jill's characterization. She was a great character and really funny.

Lois is awesome.

And I swear Lois acts the way she does because she and Hal raised five hellions.

Well there was that flashback episode where we see Lois being super nice to baby Francis while he's making trouble. She finally snaps when he almost hurts himself and they set that up as the reason she's so tough with her boys.

Lois was always temperamental but the show pretty much tells you repeatedly that she does what she thinks is best to protect her boys.

There are also a lot of moments in the show where Lois loses her hard exterior for a moment and says exactly what you said, she just wants the best for her boys.
Lois is easily one of the best and most believable TV moms there's ever been. This secret makes little to no sense.

That's what I was wondering. (about Jill I mean). Sure she teased Tim and looked at him like she thought he was either crazy or going overboard but pretty much everyone did that. Al, the kids, people he just met. That was part of the character. Personally I liked what I saw of their marriage. Two people who accepted each other but really seemed to like each other even when they were driving each other crazy.

Hell, even he had enough self-awareness to do that occasionally.

Usually not until AFTER whatever he'd been screwing with exploded, but...better late than never.
