Haven't heard the wank, but by the secret, I'm guessing she's someone who complained Jonathon Ross might fat shame, when yes, he and Jane Goldman are both medically obese by UK standards, so it's not likely. (At least I know I'm obese at UK size 14 and 5 foot 6, so they have to be, at least sometimes.)

I've stopped watching Ross's chat show after he was inappropriate to one female guest too many times. He forgets he's not in his own living room. But I'll still watch his geek coverage. The man is a proper fanboy and knows his stuff.

Oh, he withdrew from hosting the awards.

Comment from Dara O'Briain: "I think he got chased out by people who were being pious and complaining about jokes that he wasn't even making - or hasn't made nor has ever made.... I thought he did the elegant thing. Also he was doing it for free as a favour."

I gotta agree, unless it was a typo, apparently a UK 14 is a US 10, and I'm a 10-12 at 5'3 and a tiny bit overweight.

maybe it was a typo?

da

well they did specifically say 'medically overweight' which might be that range where your doctor says "Hey, you're in no danger or anything, but jsyk you're a little over the ideal weight for your body type of xxkg, so it might help reduce xy problem if you ate better and exercised more"

they said obese

"At least I know I'm obese..."

UK 14 is usually overweight on the BMI charts. That's not to say it looks bad or anything, I'm usually that size myself (shops vary so much in sizing) but my doctor would say I'm overweight.

How tall are you?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
You'd think that, wouldn't you? I'm 6'2", 240, and technically I qualify as "obese" on BMI charts. Even weirder, BMI is actually taken seriously by a lot of doctors who don't understand the concept of individual vs. population measures.

The bar for "officially obese" is not where you think it is.

There's a difference between what the average person considers overweight and what the medical community thinks is overweight, and the latter is a LOT more conservative.

I'm also 5'6" and a UK size 14 (occasionally 12) and according to BMI, I'm obese.
