Re: HAIR THREAD

My hair is fine. Super fine. Whatever you usually imagine when you think of someone with fine hair, half it, quarter it. All of my hair in one ponytail equals half of one of most people's pigtails. My hairdresser once tried to subtly ask if I was going bald; I immediately switched to a different, shampoo and conditioner. Thankfully they were much better, but even at it's fullest it still looks like what would be horridly flat hair on anyone else, and it's too delicate for most volumizing products.

It weaves into a mat at the base of my neck if I wear any sort of coat or scarf, it tends toward frizzy so I keep it long so the weight keeps it marginally neat, and if I don't brush it for a couple hours it tends to sort of separate and clump into these four bunches; one in the back, one on my left and two on my right. It can't be clipped up because even the lightest bobby-pins are too big usually - they weight it down and my hair isn't thick enough to hide even one of them, and it can't be pulled up because along with being fine it's slippery and won't hold in anything or the hairstyles look stupid because the braids, ect are teeny tiny.

The color is natural and...odd. Red-brown/gold? It looks sort of mousey-brown with a sort of copper-gold highlight in low/little light but gets a strange sort of red-gold/blonde color in light. I have literally never seen anyone else with the same color so I'm not sure how to describe it properly.

On the plus side it is incredibly, gloriously soft when brushed.

TLDR: My hair sucks.

Have you ever considered trying henna? It coats the hair instead of stripping it like artificial dyes, so it actually makes my hair a little bit thicker, noticeably so, and since your hair's already reddish it shouldn't change the color too much. Just something you might could try!

I didn't know henna was safer, but I could never dye my hair. I've considered it a few times, if only because I'd heard it would make my hair thicker, but I can't part with the natural color. Even the best dye jobs look kinda flat and there's no way I could replicate the way my natural color catches the light - it looks almost like it's made of metal sometimes - and it's one of the only things I do like about it.

I'm a ginger with a color that sounds sort of similar to yours and I do not recommend using henna on it! I started using henna a few years ago because I freaked out at finding like three whole gray hairs, and the idea of putting dye over natural red hair was repellant to everyone I knew. Henna is great for a little bit but it will eventually darken your natural color QUITE a bit. I used henna for three years and my golden-copper hair turned like... maroon. The last time I used it was two years ago and my hair is only just now FINALLY growing out enough to lighten back up.

I also have the problem you have with coats and scarves basically immediately turning my hair into a rat's nest, and I basically just spend all winter with my hair tucked four times into one ponytail holder (very lazy version of a bun) just so I don't have to spend hours brushing it out.

Our hair sounds pretty similar, actually... It's pretty unfair to have superfine hair that is ALSO very frizzy. :(

It sounds beautiful, but it does sound kinda hard to maintain. :/

ayrt. Thanks. :) It is very hard to maintain, but I do like it on the rare good hair day.
