HAIR THREAD
What does it look like? Color? Length? Texture? Volume? None at all?
Do you keep it its real color, or do you color it? How do you style it? Different ways, or same every day? Does it take a lot of effort? Is it worth it if it does?
Do you like your hair? What would you change about it if you could? What new things do you want to try? Does it complement your face?
If you cosplay, is your hair part of a cosplay, or do you wear a wig? Does it depend?
Gooooo!
Re: HAIR THREAD
I mostly wish it grew faster so I could have it long.
Re: HAIR THREAD
I usually put it up in a ponytail, bun, or braid. When I'm feeling adventurous I do a French braid, though I'm not as practiced with those as I like. Occasionally I let it down (more likely if I'm dressing up, in which case I may also flat-iron it) but it gets annoying that way - it's like a sweater around my neck and gets into everything. It also gets super bushy and poufy if it hasn't been straightened. :/ Down and straight, it's roughly the length of my shoulder blades. I would like it to be a little bit longer (but I'm not growing it indefinitely, I will stop when it hits the right length).
I do like my hair, though I used to dislike it. I wished it were straight and thinner. But I got past that - it's fun to have it straight, but most of the time I like to keep it the way it is.
I also have kinda thick eyebrows, which I wax periodically to clean them up, but I keep the thickness. I like the way it looks.

Re: HAIR THREAD
(Anonymous) 2014-03-13 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)I don't hate my hair, but I do wish it was not so fine or maybe just not so much of it. For years I said I had super thick hair, but apparently what I have is super fine hair and just a hell of a lot of it. It makes a lot of hairstyles not work.
I've also wished I had lighter hair (my natural color is a very very dark brown), if only because then I wouldn't have to bleach the hell out of it when I want fun colors!
Re: HAIR THREAD
It was blonde when I was younger but now it is blonde/brown. I have never colored it because I like to donate it every couple of years!
Re: HAIR THREAD
My hair is pretty thick and very straight (unless it's been in a braid lately, which it has, at which point it takes a slight wave). I've never been able to convince it to do much, like take a curl, because it's so long and thick and heavy.
Its natural color is dark brown; I occasionally dye it red, but it only sort-of takes, because my hair is so dark and I don't bleach it, and I'm not good at keeping it up.
Most of the time I throw my hair back in a ponytail, or occasionally a braid. I don't really know how to do anything complicated with it, and I'm not sure my hair would cooperate if I tried. I can only even get it to stay in a bun if I braid it first; otherwise it just falls right out. My hair laughs at bobby pins. It's too straight and slippery and heavy.
Generally my hair is fairly low-maintenance, except in the shower where it takes a while to wash. I'd like to know how to do more fancy styling things with it, or find a dye that would stay visible for longer, but overall I'm pretty fond of my hair.
I haven't tried cosplay yet, but I do LARP, and I try to find different ways to wear my hair for each character. I do sort of a braid-crown thing with the sides of my hair for my main PC.

I've worn it in a pixie for not quite three years and I don't know how I lived with long hair! When I was in high school, it reached my mid-back. I never really did much with it when it was long, just a lot of ponies and buns; I really like it out of my face and not touching the sides of my neck if possible.
It's so thick that when I go in to get my slightly-grown-out pixie freshened up, it creates a pile of hair on the floor that completely fills a sweeper tray. It grows really fast too, which is why I went ahead with the first pixie in the first place, I was all "Well if I hate it, it'll grow out in like 4 months tops!"
Anyway, I like my hair. I've always been curious to dye it either crazy colors or go true red (ie, bleach my hair then color, rather than use natural dye on top of it), but I'm slightly scared of bleach.
Also my eyebrows come in as MEDIUM brown/auburn, the color my hair was before puberty. So they're like 2 shades lighter than my head and I powder the shit out of them to make them match if I go out. Flash photography of me without brow products looks like I have Matt Smith brows. :\

(Anonymous) 2014-03-13 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)The hair on my head right now is long and dark, a few white hairs sneaking in that I don't mind all that much. Everyone now and then I chop some off to about shoulder length because when it gets too long it gets heavy and can cause headaches.

It's super fine so on my worst days it has no body at all, especially now that it's almost boob-length so it just weighs down. I really wish I had thicker hair that would actually look good with my face.
Usually when I wash my hair I have it down and after that have it in a ponytail or clip. I just got some foam curlers to make a hair bun, which I might try for a casual day.
I've actually been interested in having wigs to wear instead of dealing with my shitty hair sometimes, and in fact own 4 wigs already. 2 are unnatural colors for cosplay and the other two are natural-color ones but are cheap with thin spots and shinyish fibers so I won't wear them for day-to-day. Hoping to buy a relatively cheap wig that will look natural enough to wear for fun!
Re: HAIR THREAD
(Anonymous) 2014-03-13 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)I have PCOS and thus significant facial hair that I sincerely wish I didn't feel the need to do away with. I don't really get why so many men go clean shaven. When I have the time and no one to impress, I can grow an awesome little moustache! The thick eyebrows that would extend nearly down to my cheeks if unplucked are far less cool.
Re: HAIR THREAD
(Anonymous) 2014-03-13 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)I used to have it long, but it started strangling me in my sleep and giving me headaches when I tried to put it in a ponytail, so for the past five or six years I've had it short. Best. Decision. Ever. I don't do anything else to it, beyond washing it and getting it recut once it starts curling around the back of my neck again. Sometimes I get it thinned in summer, because it's the kind of thick that has the hairdresser commenting on it every time despite the fact that she's been cutting it for years and knows how thick it's gonna be.
It's fantastic stuff, though. I love my hair.
Re: HAIR THREAD
Re: HAIR THREAD
Thanks to my health failing, it's gotten kind of thin and limp, and though most of my life I'd felt like I shouldn't change it in any way, I should always keep it long and natural... at this point I'm just like "you know what, screw it" and I dyed purple streaks into it. Then added green, then red. Then I bleached that out and went with lavender, and dyed darker purple streaks into those streaks. I'm having fun with it, and think I'm going to try blue and purple next. Or maybe bleach it all and do different shades of green.
Also kind of tempted to cut it short, which I haven't done since third grade and hated at the time, which is why I haven't done it since third grade. But then playing with colors wouldn't be as much fun, plus my hair is so thin that a short cut would probably expose bald spots, so I shouldn't do that unless my health improves, probably. Unless I want to shave it all off, and then I'd probably just have people think that my health problems are due to chemo because I look so sickly already, so I don't think I want to do that. :P
I cosplay, and it's almost entirely been wigs, though one of my earliest/favorite costumes was a dude who had long reddish-brown hair in a ponytail, and that would be the other reason I didn't dye my hair interesting colors for the last several years... there was always the possibility I'd want to pull that costume out again, especially since my girlfriend cosplays a friend of his, and we're pretty much the only ones that ever cosplay them. XD

When I was a kid, I remember this instance in the summertime where my (not-Asian) cousin had to sit still for an hour while our grandma tried to untangle the huge knots in her hair. She has very thick light brown hair and she was very unhappy about the whole thing, while I just rolled around going TROLOLOL because my hair never got huge knots in them. I was a little butt.

Re: HAIR THREAD
Texture is very silky smooth, straight, with a medium volume. And its natural hair color is a subtle auburn, where it'll flare up red given natural lighting in the daytime. I've been thinking about getting red highlights to bring more of the red out in my hair.
I actually do like my hair, since it's pretty manageable. Though I still like other types of hair out there too; I just don't think I could pull it off if it was on my head. I want to try growing out my bangs so I can put it in a regular high ponytail again though.
When I cosplay, I never use my natural hair, since all the characters I tend to cosplay don't have auburn hair.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 12:11 am (UTC)(link)I'm chopping it off to a bob first chance I get.
Re: HAIR THREAD
(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 12:12 am (UTC)(link)It weaves into a mat at the base of my neck if I wear any sort of coat or scarf, it tends toward frizzy so I keep it long so the weight keeps it marginally neat, and if I don't brush it for a couple hours it tends to sort of separate and clump into these four bunches; one in the back, one on my left and two on my right. It can't be clipped up because even the lightest bobby-pins are too big usually - they weight it down and my hair isn't thick enough to hide even one of them, and it can't be pulled up because along with being fine it's slippery and won't hold in anything or the hairstyles look stupid because the braids, ect are teeny tiny.
The color is natural and...odd. Red-brown/gold? It looks sort of mousey-brown with a sort of copper-gold highlight in low/little light but gets a strange sort of red-gold/blonde color in light. I have literally never seen anyone else with the same color so I'm not sure how to describe it properly.
On the plus side it is incredibly, gloriously soft when brushed.
TLDR: My hair sucks.

I've never dyed my hair with anything more than temp dyes because I'm afraid it will permanently damage my hair and I'd have to cut it all off to return to my normal color (and wait for it to grow back). I've always wanted pitch black hair, though - ever since I saw Disney's Pocahontas as a kid, I've had wicked jealousy.

I really love it being long so I don't want to cut it, but if my hair got burnt off or something I'd like to try an undercut, those look so cool.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-14 12:53 am (UTC)(link)Eyebrows - very bushy, very thick, very dark. Generally, I don't bother with them because it's frankly far too much work plucking at something that's behind the frames of my glasses anyway. Though, if I do have an event where it seems necessary (because I'm wearing a lighter frame, or I need eye makeup or whatever), I will take the time to tweeze them into shape - they grow back FAST, though, so it's hardly ever worth it to me.
Overall, it's not too much effort - once in a blue moon I give the ends a trim, I don't color it, and no style I do takes more than a half hour. Personally, I think it's worth it - not so much the time, but the amount I spend on bobby pins and other fasteners and shampoo.
If I could change anything about it, I'd maybe like it to be slightly more versatile - it's so very straight that any styles involving curls or setting it never hold for very long, if at all. I would like to try creating the highest beehive ever, but haven't found an event or the time to do it, yet. Do think it suits my face, or I wouldn't wear it the way I do.
Don't cosplay as such but I do do a lot of theatre and there it's never been a problem. The hair people generally wrestle it into whatever they need it to be, and they've even managed to hide all of it and make things look like a man's duck-tail cut... Once had bangs for a while for a role (the horror!) but they grew out to the point of being hide-able fairly quickly. Have done false facial hair (when playing guys), never had to wear a wig, though I would if I needed to.
