I really wish my grandma would realize that dipping a dish into dirty, lukewarm, vaguely soapy water then shaking the water off does not actually qualify as "washing the dishes".

Do your grandma's dishes for her, for Pete's sake. She will be pleasantly surprised and you will feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And also have clean dishes.

She lives with us, and she says she likes doing the dishes. We don't want to offend her, so we just rewash everything later.

Oh, and to clarify, it's not like she does them all the time. We always do the dinner dishes, she just tries to help out by doing any dishes that are used during the day (which isn't usually many).

Better than my grandpa with Alzheimer's, who uses cold water with no soap. You always have to clean everything there before you can touch anything, and no matter how often people try to throw out the spoiled food, there is always something hidden away in some corner of the house.

Seriously though, is that a generational thing? She'd do that too and there'd still be food stuck everywhere.
