Stop doing fanon and pay attention to what's actually happening. They have a deep bond, but it is of a sexless variety.

I could be wrong, but it looks like the magic of Greg Land.

Also, I don't even think the fandom is that invested in Clint/Natasha. I know there are shippers, but for the most part they seem pretty mellow, and the Clint-Tasha friendship gets a hell of a lot of play.

Admittedly I probably should have found a better example then Land art.

Given that the pic is of the Renner version of Clint, I think it's safe to say OP is talking about MCU, which has nothing to do with comics Natasha/Bucky. I hate when people get on MCU fans for not knowing everything from the comics when they are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CANONS. What part of that do you not grasp? Natasha and Clint could be just friends in the films, or they could not be, but what they do in the comics has nothing to do with it.

Anyway, people can ship who they want.

This so much. We don't know yet what direction they are going to take in the movies. Personally, even as a shipper, I want them to stay platonic mostly because I want MCU Natasha to stay single and awesome and I'm scared of what they'd do with a romance. But there hasn't been any clear statements either way either in the movies or from the writers. And either way, Bucky and Natasha haven't even met yet so they clearly aren't involved.

Well given that ScarJo is preggers, she'll likely be fridged in Avengers 2 anyway. Hopefully Joss will give her a heroic death and not a brain breakingly out of character one like he gave Cordelia on Angel.

I kidna agree though I mean they're not canon lovers in the films, either. "Natasha could do better" kinda implied that they were.

But I guess it's easy to headcanon that they are.

Huh? It's the third most common MCU pairing on AO3, right after Steve/Tony and Clint/Coulson. Admittedly, there's no way of knowing how often they're a main pairing and how often they're a background pairing, but even so: 3600 fics doesn't seem unpopular to me.

From what I have seen, the vast majority of these have Clint/Nat as the background pairing. I also go by not iust AO3 but fanfic elsewhere, i.e. the fact that Clint/Nat, in comparison to other pairings for those characters, doesn't get asked for much. I am not saying it isn't a popular ship, just that it isn't THAT popular and most of the popularity it ever had has waned by now/is a bit older, so why pick this pairing to troll over?

OP makes it seem like it's established canon though. And it's not.

There has certainly been some amount of the movies referencing the comics though, so it's not as if it's impossible.

I'm just saying there's more likely ships out there.
