God, I know what you mean. Sometimes I look at characters making fools of themselves/being very emotional and I just cringe so hard I think about pausing the thing and doing something else for a while.

But I learnt to convince myself not to do it. I mentally order myself to stop perceiving the events as real and keep in mind the fact that it is no more than a TV show. And then I can go through these scenes without pausing. I kind of subdue my emotional connection to what is going on on-screen.
