Everyone share your most irritating awful-personal-appearance-choice in your TV shows!

Personally, I will never forgive Mike Farrell for growing that terrible '70s mustache on M*A*S*H. Not only did it make BJ look far less cute than he previously did, but no one wore mustaches like that in 1953. It was ultra-'70s all the way, like Margaret's slowly-evolving Farrah Fawcett haircut.

Awww, I like that fabulous 'stache! When BJ first got there, he was kind of a conformist with his neat uniform and clean shaven face, but I took the gradual shagginess of him to indicate that he was finding who he was in contrast to the war going on around him, and as a way of establishing his own identity away from the influences of his profession, his family, whatnot.

And wasn't MASH more about the Vietnam War than the Korean War anyway?

Oh, I didn't mind the idea of a mustache, just that the mustache he DID have was a dumb one ;)

For being about Vietnam...Not in that way, IMO. It was definitely partly a metaphor for Vietnam, and they weren't really fussed about being totally historically authentic values-wise. But MASH was still very, very explicitly set in the '50s. The '50s was all over it, deliberately so, with specific '50s historical references, multiple mentions of '50s political figures and celebrities, '50s music, '50s movies, '50s technology, and was very specifically grounded in Korea, with Korean War politics, and Korean War tactics, and Korean War issues -- the decade and country weren't it wasn't just a backdrop. So since the numerous anachronisms were mixed into all those deliberate '50s references, it still felt like seeing '60s hippies pop up in WWII.

It's hilarious and awesome and has Donald Sutherland as a world war II era tank driving hippie.

Just sayin'. :D
