I would have given this a 1/10 for effort, but people actually seem to be taking the bait, so I'll bump it up to a 4/10. Good(?) job.

The phrasing is problematic and even sexist, but the point of the secret is actually true. There have been lots of people complaining about this issue.

What issue? Guys... somehow not acting like guys?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
A group of guys acting like teenage girls.

You're going to have to elaborate for me. I haven't seen the show.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you seen any of the moeblob shows where the characters are super infantilized but simultaneously sexualized and you're just left with a bad feeling, and wondering how anyone could like the show?

Yes. Is that how teenage girls act?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It is, now!

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
The decision has been made! Teenage girls now must act like moe anime characters. NO EXCEPTIONS.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It is in these types of shows, unfortunately. It's stupid.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
yet apparently OP thinks they're acting "like women". great.

diff

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
No, but that could be that I don't expect fictional characters to act just like real people, so what you see as acting infantalized, I see as going over the top for humor.

Re: diff

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The problem is that they don't do it for humor.

Re: diff

The problem is that there is no difference other than in the intent, and general audiences -- people who aren't watching things for moe, AKA 99% of the human population -- are going to see it as nothing more than humor.

Are you kidding me? Most of the people watching and buying this crap do it to objectify the female characters.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-17 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Do tell me how teenage girls (ALL teenage girls, from all cultures) act.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-16 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
1) this secret is not true because "acting like girls" is a completely meaningless phrase. acting like stereotypical high school ANIME girls, perhaps, but since real girls don't act like that, it shouldn't matter if the same archetypes are given to guys.

2) "lots of people complaining" oh lol bullshit. no one went into this show expecting to see a snapshot of real Japanese swim team high school students. if they did, they are actually idiots. like, IQ of something under 70.
