er, they're definitely female ponies. even if for some reason someone wasn't aware of this while watching the regular show, the movie confirms it when twilight sparkle is taken to an alternate universe where all the ponies are human and she and her friends are definitely women

wow, I didn't know there was a movie. I take it it's animated, though. Would be interesting with human actors.
