I have to admit, I found it kind of weird when most people around here were acting like making a slash pairing het is the only reason for genderbending one character and not another.

I guess I just underestimate how much of fandom revolves around shipping. I have a hard time believing it when people say that's the only thing most people care about and I foolishly thought a lot of people who like genderbent fic were like OP.

I found it kind of weird when most people around here were acting like making a slash pairing het is the only reason for genderbending one character and not another.

I've seen a few writers do that before, where it was very obvious from the author notes that they didn't like (fem)slash and/or were actually homophobic, and that's why they were so interested in genderbent fic.

But, yeah, the vast majority of the genderswap writers I'm familiar with really, really like (fem)slash, but also enjoy genderswapping certain characters occasionally.
