You really need take off your nostalgia glasses and look at the promotional art for the first anime there, chief. Or heck, any of the damn animation for the first season of BSSM. It wasn't that great. This is actually better.

Eh, I will agree somewhat. The first season's look wasnt that great. Ikuko Itoh's designs are still the best imo. I am loving that promo art though.

Was it really that bad? It was the early 90's. I should hope the new series is better animated, of course, if only to reflect that technology and techniques have moved on.

But the thing is, back then they had no idea how big Sailor Moon would be, they had a very small budget and you can really tell when things turned around because the art jumped several leaps forward in a small amount of time.

This I wouldn't really call better, it looks like cheap photoshop. I didn't expect to love everything they put out, but I expected better from such a huge franchise.
