Do you not have dental insurance? Cleanings are usually covered for free. In any case, this is exactly why I haven't gone to the dentist is several years, so I feel you.

I don't. :( I am trying to see if I can get it through that healthcare.gov but I can't figure it out.

Since you mentioned healthcare.gov, I'll assume you're in the US, and uh, sorry, but they don't offer dental. I wish they did. I've got all kinds of nasty dental infection crap going on, and haven't had dental insurance for 7+ years. Try searching for local low-cost dental clinics? Some offer sliding-scale payment. And I think, but I'm not certain about this, that if you are poor enough to qualify for Medicaid expansion, Medicaid may pay some dental costs, but I'm not sure about that. Also, some dentists in my state (no idea how widespread this is) offer something called Carecredit, which I think is like a credit card for medical expenses. I've no idea if it's worth it, but maybe ask? Good luck, and I'm sorry you got such nasty news.

-Question: What type of coverage do you need?
-Check "Dental." If your state has its own exchange, you'll be directed there, and whether or not you can get dental depends on your state government. If your state defaults to the Federal program, there's a decent chance you can get dental insurance. Again, this will depend somewhat on your state, but you can get dental in Missouri for less than $20/month.
