I once saw someone get into a screaming range because "OMG EVERYONE KNOWS THAT CECIL IS BLONDE, BRUNETTE CECIL IS OOC".

Probably doesn't help that when a lot of media does cover WTNV, it usually says, "Fandom is so united, they've come up with a completely consistent idea of a skinny white guy with blonde hair, glasses, sweatervests, a third eye, moving tattoos, and sometimes tentacles!" and only show fanart that shows that. No we have NOT, goddammit, there are so many diverse designs that are completely ignored in favour of 'muh three eyes and tentacles!'.

Like. Literally all we know is that he can be identified as a man, not tall and not short, not fat and not thin, has hair, eyes, and a nose, has worn a tie at least once, wears shoes, has legs, and is one of the 47% of Night Valeans who feels pain. Holy fuck, there are SO many appearances that can work with that! Why limit yourself to one design, over and over and over again?

...And I started ranting. Sorry about that!

That is some dumb shit.

Yeah, the shitty reporting thing irks me too. Very irritating. It doesn't help with the actual fandom dynamic either because then people point to that as "proof". And I hear ya about the diverse designs. I've reblogged a shitton of 'em.

Exactly. On top of that, we don't even know if those body parts or clothing items are in the "right" places.

Naw, it's cool. I generally feel the same. Thing is, I like all Cecils. I like that common one and I like the uncommon ones. I just don't like the people in fandom running around proclaiming crap canon with no factual support whatsoever.

I don't mind the common one as a matter of design, I think it's pretty distinctive and, uh, neat, but it's almost like... hype backlash? I've gotten to the point when I just scroll by when I see them, unless the art is exceptional (most recently saved - littleulvar's picture of Cecil and Khoshekh ;_; ).

But yes. There is NO canon Cecil, creativity is good!

I understand that feeling. I can find myself feeling that but it generally dissipates quickly enough.

My biggest fear during the T-Shirt contest was that one of the ones that gave them an appearance would win.

Because that'd be nearly a canon acknowledgement and I fully support the idea that we will never have a true image of what they look like and never should.

Hiram McDaniels, on the other hand, I want to see.

Also Kevin but that'd be a bad idea.

Yeah, I really like the one that won! Both because it's ambiguous and because it's just a gorgeous design, heh.

Kevin would be... risky, yes XD Hiram I would love to see, though! And Tamika! (I have a Tamika design, she's basically an aged-up Lavender from the Matilda movie, heh. Also, just realised I left an 'of' out of the quote, whoops.)
