It's possible for Jon to be Rhaegar and Lyanna's son and also not to see Rhaegar and Lyanna as some sort of super romantic relationship.

Mostly thought I think R+L=J is real because it's the only way to explain Ned's behavior.

This.

I agree about Ned's behavior.

Like honestly, if Jon were really Ned's bastard, I think he would have sent him to live with like Howland Reed to be raised.

The only reason he keeps him at Winterfell is because of his promise to Lyanna to protect her son, imo.

I kinda thought he could really be robert's son, but unless he and lyanna were married already, he'd only be another bastard, anyway... otherwise he could of course have jeopardized the lannister/baratheon alliance, which would be reason enough to keep him a secret, because we know how tywin and his men deal with kids that are in the way.
It's kind of a crazy idea, but I do think that Gendry, Jon (and also Podric Payne, for that matter) have this uncanny resemblance to oneanother. Coincidence, or intended casting? Hmmm...
I haven't read further than the second book, to avoid series spoilers, though, so I'm ignornt to a lot of things that happen, or are revealed, at a later point...

I almost can't believe I'm completely agreeing with you on something, especially with regards to the freakin' Starks, but yes.

And even if R+L was consensual, it's still messed up.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-18 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
This. Most people I talk to about it believe in R+L=J while also thinking that Rhaegar's actions were short-sighted at best and abduction-and-rape at worst.

That's pretty much my point of view, yeah, and I believe there is no R+L=J is not canon.

I pretty much agree with everything in this comment. Especially in regards to Ned.

I don't know about OP, but I've seen a lot of douchey behaviour where R+L=J is concerned even from people who don't ship Rhaegar and Lyanna as a romantic relationship (but they still behave like you're a "bad fan" if you don't like the R+L=J theory).

Also, shipper doesn't necessarily mean romantic shipping. You can ship something as a messed up unhealthy relationship, you can ship non-con etc.
