An overwhelming majority of my friends are other girls (not for any past backstabbing, it's just what I'm used to) and even I have a couple of male friends.

But any women who says "I'm not like other girls." as if it makes them 'better' needs to shut the fuck up

Try growing up a girl with one allowed way of being. Sometimes you get a chip on the shoulder and want to tell the world and every girl who fits in easily to STFU. You want to say I'm not like you, stop it.

Your attitude is just another way to criticize young women trying so hard to find a place to be THEMSELVES. This attitude on this site of saying no girl can claim to be different or have a chip on her shoulder is just another way of criticizing girls more than guys. This is not a response to this singer but rather the attitude here of mocking judgment about young women who feel different and look for a way to express it.

Basically there are many judgementS folks here who need to SHUT It.

#judgmental

Claiming you're different is fine. Claiming you're different from "all those other girls" for reasons XYZ that are usually sexist trash (they're bitchy, catty, backstabbing, sluts, boyfriend stealers, etc.) usually just means you have issues.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. The former can be a simple observation, but the latter example is essentially building yourself up by tearing others down.

If you're trying to be YOURSELF by trashing everyone else of your gender, then what the HELL is YOURSELF.

You're talking to a bunch of GEEK women who KNOW what it's like to defy gender expectations and sexist stereotypes and be disappointed in so many of their peers, but most of us learn how to move past the immature stage we have of "I'm not a stupid girly-girl female. I'm BETTER."

And then you hit your mid twenties and GROW THE HELL UP.

So. Others have already said a lot of good things. But I wanted to add that having a chip on your shoulder is a bad thing, whether you're male or female. Nobody likes a mopey, arrogant fucktard, and I'm not sure why you think people should.

Having a chip on your shoulder at the world (for totally understandable reasons) =/= having one at all other women because you're obviously more special than them. Claiming to be different =/= claiming to be better. So, so important to see these distinctions.
