I am curious to see the answer to this too. Though it might be really different than what the general population would say.

I have never understood the phenomenon of shaving one's vag. I don't want anything that sharp down there. Or that itchy.

I have never understood the phenomenon of shaving one's vag.

Personally, I really enjoy the feel of having bare skin in that area and it gives me (and other women who feel the same way) a heightened sense of pleasure whilst masturbating or having sex. Aesthetically though, I don't really like the way it looks and I hate the hassle of shaving and I'm too embarrassed to get waxed so I don't do it too often

I just can't stand the itch when it starts to grow back in.

Yeah, that's definitely another factor that keeps me from doing it often. I try every in the book to avoid ingrown hairs but I still get them and having an ingrown hair in your pubic area is basically hell on earth.

It's the strangest thing, because I'm definitely itchier when I haven't shaved in a while. The day after, it might be a little irritated, but as long as I remember to use body butter I can usually bypass that stage completely.

Hm, hadn't thought about it from the sex angle (I'm a virgin). Does it just get in the way when it's hairy? And honest curiosity, what about genital hair on your partner - does that affect it?

idk if it would stay smooth in my case. Shaving my bikini line gives me a horrible itchy bumpy red rash. :/

Eh, it depends. I personally can't stand the texture of hair around my mouth/lips, so, when I go down on someone of either gender, I prefer there to be very little to no hair.

As for myself, I was on the swim team all through highschool and college. At this point, shaving my body hair is just habit.

That would definitely do it.

I remember the guys on our swim team in high school. They shaved their bodies before the big meet of the year, including their hair, and they did their hair in crazy wacky hairdos the day before. :P

Long/bushy hair can get in the way, depending, but a little trimming is all you really need. The rest is personal preference.

This.

Pruning your bush is fine. To be bare down there all the time is actually not healthy; the hair is there for protection.

Against what?

Pirates.

Now I want "pubic hair protects against (blank)" as a Cards Against Humanity card.

I guess for me the hair does kind of get in the way while having no hair is able to make the sensation more intense though I think that just depends on the person. I don't really care about my partner's pubic hair tbh although I prefer it to be trimmed just for practical reasons in the event of oral sex. Other than that, it doesn't really matter to me

This, plus it's much easier to keep clean during my period. (Also I have had some unpleasant experiences where a hair got caught under the sticky edge of a pad and OW.)

Ugh, yeah, that does suck. Especially if you are dumb and accidentally fold the pad over before pulling up your panties

I find that trimming helps with that too - with a trimmer, not just scissors.

People use trimmers? I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try it.

Oh it's fantastic. Mine is small with a rechargeable battery, I just push the guard down to trim as close as it goes and I've never so much as yanked a hair wrong. Took a couple times to figure out the best angles but now it's so easy and quick and turns out so even. I used to dread going for the scissors.

Oh. I need to find a small trimmer, then. Thanks for the idea :*

Is a pubic hair trimmer its own thing...? Or do you just use an electric razor?

I personally just like to trim it up a bit. I don't wax or anything like that, but I don't like long hairs growing wild.

Re: Female body hair and men

(Anonymous) 2014-03-19 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I wax, but only the bikini line, for aesthetic purposes. I just don't like how it looks if I wear a bikini and there are bits of black hair sticking out. The rest of the time I just trim it because it's itchy either way, for me.

I don't swim enough for it to be worth it. I used to shave down there, but ugh, no. So much itchy bumpy redness, and then it all grows back in like three days. Now if I do swim (which is...maybe once a year??) I just put shorts on over my suit.

TMI incoming.

I trim the general pubic hair because if it gets long, I end up with fibro skin sensitivity issues from the hair pressing against my underwear. It actually is physically painful. I also shave the area right around my genitalia (where the skin starts to change texture) because, um, I get very *long* pubic hair, and let me just say that having your own pubic hair tangle itself around your clit is very, very, very unpleasant. Especially whilst in public. -_-
