Miaka/Tamahome. Even back when I liked Fushigi Yugi I just couldn't get into them. I never thought Tamahome was that great so I didn't get why Miaka had to think about him every 7 seconds. Their total absorption in each other was so off putting. I liked the concept of the universe but I really don't like the way Yuu Watase writes romance.

Her later stories were a bit better. Alice 19th I felt was pretty strong. Though Absolute Boyfriend...was...I don't even know why I was so into it these days.

Alice 19th is probably my favorite of all her works now that I look back. I think my interest was already starting to wane slightly by the time Imadoki came out with it's WOW SO ORIGINAL AND SURPRISING PSYCHOTIC SUICIDAL MAIN RIVAL LOVE INTEREST. With Absolute Boyfriend, I'm glad to say, my high school self read the first volume and was like "nope."

Genbu Kaiden was better? But it still suffered from a lot of the same tropes/meandering pace.

Miaka and Tamahome was terrible, it might not have been as bad if every other character in that series didn't get screwed. But it's hard to care about their happy romance when all my favorite characters are dead.
