tbh, the fandom is just so boring with its ship preferences. Eren/Levi has shit chemistry and Marco/Jean is played up to be this 'tragic doomed love-story' and like hello what. I mean I don't judge people with its ship preference, but seeing they're just so widely spread...

Hell, I entered the fandom even expecting Eren/Jean (with all the cliche 'rivals with unresolved sexual tension' things that most fandoms seem to love), but yeaah. I never spent too much time in this fandom, OP. It's so boring.

Yep. That's exactly how I feel.

Marco was a sweetheart, but still a pretty minor character. How the hell did JeanMarco get so freaking popular?

Ereri is also a mystery seeing as how Eren is always flinching like he's afraid Levi is gonna beat him up again. And yeah, they have zero chemistry.

wtf is wrong with this fandom? There are so many characters and shipping possibilities that have more interesting dynamics, and these are the ones fangirls go crazy over?

Yep, SnK fandom is boring and has bad taste.

sauce? I keep seeing this thrown around, and the only time I remember it happening is right after the triel.

I admit I'm a Jean/Marco shipper and here's my theories on why it's so popular:

1. Marco is a minor character overall but he had a HUGE impact on Jean's life, to the point that it's kicked off a new character arc for him. He holds Marco in such high regard he'll rather join the scouting legion than disappoint his friend.

2. Marco's speech to Jean about how he's a good leader and how much faith he has in him. So Marco also holds Jean in high regard if he's willing to entrust his life to his friend.

3. They were close friends and some people adore the friends-to-lovers dynamic. I admit this is a main reason for me - two people who gel well together as friends and comrades, who trust and support each other, and make plans for the future together, is my favorite kind of springboard for a ship.

4. OMG THEIR LOVE WAS SO TRAGIC MY FEELS (ugh)

5. They're two hot dudes. One of which has freckles, which lots of girls like. Nuff said.
