Yeah, Jean/Marco is a super popular SNK ship. I never understood the appeal of it.

Yeah they do. Marco's dead. Get over it. Ship Jean with Armin instead. Or Eren, or Mikasa, or Sasha, or anyone that's still freaking alive.

I love this pairing! I'm usually not a fan of their kind of dynamic either, but I agree, something just clicks with them.

This is why I didn't linger in fandom.

It is weirdly under-popular for what would be expected. Then again, so are Reiner ships--he's only ever put with Bertholdt or Annie, when Reiner/Eren or Reiner/Armin would have some presence you would think. You would think Eremin would be bigger too but it's not.

idk. What's shipped for this series seems to defy expectation.

The lack of Eren/Armin also surprises me. And the lack of Eren/Armin/Mikasa. I thought fandom would be all over them as an OT3, but it's just not there.

Actually, I feel like SnK fell right into every popular ship I would have expected. Main character x bad ass favorite. Commander x his right hand soldier (pun not intended). Canon or nearly canon femslash couple. Eremin not being a thing doesn't surprise me at all, I can't think of any popular protag/best friend pairings. Was Harry/Ron ever a big thing?

And Reiner, Bertholdt, and Annie come as a set for plot reasons. I could see Reiner/Eren or Reiner/Armin if their "rivalry" was more personal and charged, but it kind of...isn't? In fact it's almost decidedly NOT personal. Takes all the fun out of shipping protag/antag.

Every pairing that deserves more love doesn't get it.

The pairing with the least chemistry is the most popular.

I'm an Eremin shipper, but I'll gladly support Eren/Jean, Erwin/Levi, anything as long as it pairs Eren and Levi with someone OTHER THAN EACH OTHER. I wonder, was Western SnK fandom heavily influenced by Japanese Ereri fanart to get to this point? Because J-fandom can be pretty bizarre in its shipping, but I always considered Western fandom to have more sensible/logical shipping tastes........

Whatever. As it is right now, SnK fandom is dead to me. DEAD TO ME.

I don't think it's fair to generalize like that, I've seen plenty of ships in Western fandoms make absolutely no sense, whereas in J-fandom it was the opposite. Some fandoms just attract nonsensical shit more than others.

I disagree that Levi/Eren is so illogical in terms of shipping preferences (it's ok if you don't like it, of course). It's got the double whammy of mentor/mentee and Main Character/Most Popular Character with Officer/Subordinate thrown in. Oh, and Humanity's Hope/Humanity's Strongest.

Like, I get the frustration, but even as a non-shipper I can see some of the reasons it took off...

tbh, the fandom is just so boring with its ship preferences. Eren/Levi has shit chemistry and Marco/Jean is played up to be this 'tragic doomed love-story' and like hello what. I mean I don't judge people with its ship preference, but seeing they're just so widely spread...

Hell, I entered the fandom even expecting Eren/Jean (with all the cliche 'rivals with unresolved sexual tension' things that most fandoms seem to love), but yeaah. I never spent too much time in this fandom, OP. It's so boring.

Eren/Jean actually makes me realize why I don't care for Ereri. In a way I feel like Eren is 'cowed' when he's with Levi, because he's for the most part intimidated by or in awe of Levi. But with Jean (or even other characters), he's totally his outspoken and crazy self. It's so much more fun.

At least there's a little more for them than for some of my other ships, but they're still nowhere near the fandom juggernauts. I wish the ships were more evenly spread.
