Yeah, this. I've tried so many times to hang out with men, and they end up assuming I'm a bit "cute", a bit "novel", like they are indulging me, and then it ends up they want in my pants. Some women would be able to ignore that, or take advantage of that, but it tends to sour me pretty fast. I can spot condescension/othering from ten paces away, even when me and a guy are having a super-deep physics conversation over a bong. Sigh.

Jeez anon, are you me? Because you've described exactly my issues when it comes to befriending men, especially with the condescension. I only ever experience that with dudes and it drives me up the wall. Makes me wonder if that's a common dynamic between most male/female friendships, and if it is, I don't want any part of it.
