Re: Skeevy Rom-com Movies

I actually love Overboard, and I only saw it for the first time a few years ago (I'm 21.) I know there's rape and that the whole thing is totally fucked, but I can't help it. I adore that movie, flaws and all.

I love the interaction between Dean and Annie/Joanna. I also have a special interest in films and TV shows where real life partners act together either as partners or not.

I love the Caterina/Arturo story. I love the kids.

Yeah. I'm trash. I'm so sorry, OP.

Not OP, but I think that film works for me because, as another nonny pointed out, it's a farce and so I don't take it THAT seriously, and also because Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn just had great chemistry together. Go figure. I saw the film again recently, and although my brain said "whoo, I bet they wouldn't film it that way these days," I can still watch it in the lighthearted way it was intended.

:)

No, you aren't trash. I still like it, even with all it's issues, but I have to kind of turn off my brain to watch it nowadays. I can't think too hard about it or I get uncomfortable about the implications.
