What's it about, OP?

not op but . . .

Here's the description from MangaFox, which sums it up well:

27 year-old Ayukawa Yuuji has never been much of a man. He's more comfortable sewing than fighting, he faints at the sight of blood, and his fiancee is tougher than he is. He's also a terrible pushover. So when his boss at the medical lab volunteers him for some experimental drug therapy, how can he possibly refuse? All's mediocre for Yuuji: master of the pathetic.

Mediocre, that is, until a juvenile mass murder suspect jumps out from under Yuuji's bed, declaring him his "mate." Before Yuuji has time to argue, the stranger transforms into a 16 foot-tall dinosaur and beheads his roommate...

Yuuji suddenly finds himself the sole target of a lost race that turns into dinosaurs, an extremely scary woman with a Goddess-Complex, the yakuza, a mad scientist and one 17 year-old boy who really, really, really wants to sleep with him.

...I have so many questions. Are you serious? Did somebody actually write/draw an entire manga on that premise? Has manga become wilder since the last time I read it?

Well, this series is from the late 80s-early 90s, so I guess you can argue that it's always been wild.

I read the tv tropes page. It gets wilder apparently.

It's so fucking weird. What the premise doesn't tell you that the human dude is actually getting a womb due some weird drugs he was taking so there is mpreg later on in the series. And the dino dude beats up the human dude three times because the human wants to leave and keeps telling them that he's actually a guy and almost rapes him and almost lets another guy rape him. This is all in the first couple chapters. It gets better as it goes on, but it's still weird.

It's like those skeevy 90s sci-fi books but it's a yaoi.

...it's like the SPN kinkmeme but a yaoi.

iirc, the mpreg is because the Yuuji(?) was born as hermaphrodite and he was...

Wow yeah, this makes no sense. Nevermind.

It sometimes is like every bad slash trope thrown together into one crazy series. There is also a lot of rape, even by 'yaoi' standards, which makes it really, really hard to read at times.
But somehow the story and the characters really stick with you. I'm always hesitant to rec it, because it is hard to read- because of what I mentioned- but it is actually one of the yaoi greats. I swear. There's things like character growth, crazy sci fi, different locales, and government conspiracies. It's almost epic at times, for a BL.
(And Minato, the dino-boy. I love him.)

Exactly. Everything about it says it should be terrible but its addicitve and stayed with me for so long, just like the OP and I'd give anything to be able to read the last part of it (I want a happy ending!)

I'm a huge fan of it! I just recommended it to some of my friends a month back or so. I've been meaning to reread it for a while.

this is one of the main reasons i rarely read manga. seems all the series i choose end up being translated only once every million years. sorry anon :/ i hope maybe you can at least find another fan here to chat with about it.

Oh my gosh, an Animal X secret!! I first read it in my teens too, and it's still one of my favourites today, years later (Despite the many things I also don't like about the series.) It's like so many of my guilty pleasures combined. I'm pretty sure I bought at least a couple of volumes of its most recent re-release. I just wish my Japanese was better so I could fully understand the last few volumes.
I also think that the scanlation group dropped it. I've given up checking the website.

Don't know about this series, but situations like these are why I decided to learn Japanese. All those niche untranslated manga that cater to my interests! I want to read them all! Plus, learning languages is always fun.

Woah, blast from the past. All I remember from the second part is that their baby daughter looked like the dino!dude, and they where all living happy. I'm okay with that.

And they were living in Alberta, Canada (seriously, what other manga has been set in Alberta, Canada).
