i'm a bit like you... when it comes to fandom. i mostly read shippy fic and headcanons and stuff. BUT i like my canon romance-free. make of that what you will.

I think it's more fun to ship when canon is romance free because there are more possibilities and you can choose what relationship you find the most interesting.

I mean I know people ignore canon in fic a lot, but I personally find it annoying when I don't like a canon ship.

Yeah I think that's one of the biggest reasons. No one wants to have to choose between writing a break-up and pretending part of canon never happened.

That and the fact that very few professional writers seem to know how to write romance.

Are you me? For me, it's because I usually find the "canon" romances to be written badly, and most of the "romantic" tropes make want to bash my head against a wall...
