TV of the '70s

If you're familiar with any of the shows from back then, what are your faves? Or if you're old enough to remember what you watched first-run, what WERE your faves back then?

What a coincidence, I'm currently watching videos from The Letter People. I loved that show as a kid.

WKRP in Cincinnati. One of my absolute favorite series of all time.
Fantasy Island. It always struck me as a fascinating idea.
The Muppet Show. 'nuff said.

I also enjoyed Cagney and Lacey.

The British comedies, Man About the House and Monty Python were also favorites.

I got WKRP on DVD for my mom and sadly they replaced all the music with other music because they couldn't get the rights and it kind of sucks :( but yes it was hilarious

Oh, I'm well aware. Especially because some of the songs trigger the joke. So disappointing.

I always associated Cagney and Lacey as more of an 80s show. Perhaps because it lasted well into the 80s?

M*A*S*H, All in the Family, Sandford and Son, Chico and the Man, Welcome Back, Kotter, Taxi, 60 Minutes (it used to be so good), Zoom, The Love Boat and Fantasy Island, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek (in reruns, yes, but still), The Avengers and The New Avengers, Return of the Saint.....

Oh, wow. Most of my childhood viewing was stuff from the 70s. The only list that might be longer is the 80s. *deep breath* But off the top of my head ...

Alias Smith & Jones - most adorable pair of outlaws ever
The Incredible Hulk - between this and the A-Team, I got stuck on the 'hunted heroes' idea
The Dukes of Hazzard - western with cars
Kojak - "Who loves ya, baby?"
Blake's 7 - found it later on, but fell in love anyway
The Bionic Woman - I think I watched 'Six Million Dollar Man' too, but it was Jaime I remember
Charlie's Angels - I had two sisters. We had fun pretending to be angels
Fantasy Island - pretty sure it's where my lifelong fascination with Ricardo Montalban came from
Sapphire & Steel - another later find, but gorgeously creepy
Doctor Who (Pertwee era) - my favourite Doctor and all-time favourite era of Who. Mostly because the Brig
UFO - surprisingly brutal sci-fi from the people who brought you Thunderbirds. I love it
Starsky & Hutch - Because my dad, mostly. He loved it madly

HA, you made me remember some. Bionic Woman, for sure. And Wonder Woman, and Mighty Isis. And Columbo!

Re: TV of the '70s

(Anonymous) 2014-03-20 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I only vaguely remember Columbo. When I think of Peter Falk, I tend to think either of The Princess Bride or The Great Race. "Push the button, Max!"

Columbo was awesome. He staggered around in his trench coat, smoking and squinting at people and bursting out with funny questions and acting totally baffled but then...he gotcha!
:)

Battlestar Galactica
Emergency
MASH (the first five seasons or so)
Mary Tyler Moore

There are more, but those are the ones that that come to mind.

Oh! I'd forgotten BSG: Original Recipe! :D Baltar was such a ham. And Lorne Greene will never not be awesome.

Barney Miller! My dad loved that show. And also Emergency and Hawaii 5-O and Rampart. And yes, Mary Tyler Moore *and* Rhoda.

Hulu has season one of WKRP available streaming. Still a great watch.

Agree with all the great shows already mentioned, especially WKRP in Cincinnati. But how on earth has no one mentioned Kolchak: The Nightstalker yet? I loved that show. Also, it's what inspired Chris Carter to do X-files so double win.

I love many of the shows mentioned already, but I have to add Mork. Back in the day when Robin Williams hadn't started doing terrible movies yet (I love some of his movies, but a lot of his other movies are real stinkers)
