I strongly suspect that most of Tumblr is doing this. Being trans or nonbinary is "cool", so anyone who doesn't fit the strict and stereotypical gender role (that no one in real life really fits) says they're not quite cis, and then the few who're left pretend just to fit in.
And then real trans people (like me) are thougth to be even more of a joke than we were before.

So, umm, stop it? please?

"I strongly suspect that most of Tumblr is doing this."

Me too. (of course I'd never admit this on there :S)

The problem is that these kids think "gender identity == gender expression".

It reminds me of how in 2006-2007, the cool thing was to be bisexual. And then all the real bisexual people weren't taken seriously.

I hate to break it to you, but we weren't taken seriously before that, either.

And kids wearing bisexuality for funsies didn't make it any easier to be taken seriously.

I suspect it as well. It seems to be the latest and greatest Tumblr trend right now.
