I'm gonna say this is a Destiel, Johnlock, or Sterek shipper, who knows they're being ridiculous and thus hid their ship to avoid facing voices of reason.

They said it's not one of the "canon close friends but wildly popular ship" ships, though. I think that basically rules all of those out. I'm thinking it's probably some less popular side ship that doesn't really have any bearing on the story as a whole, but maybe their interactions just make more sense if you consider them a couple? I wish they'd given us something more than a picture of bread to go on, especially if it's not even related. :/
